Hi everyone - I'm hoping someone can give me a definitive answer to this one....

I'd like to buy a plasma display that I can use here in the UK and take home with me to Australia when I return in a year's time. I've had conflicting information about whether this is possible.

I realise we use different PAL systems, but surely if I just buy a panel with a plug-in tuner, I can buy an Australian-spec tuner unit when I return? I've been told by Panasonic that this is not possible and that the panel would have to undergo expensive "conversion" (they wouldn't specify what that conversion would be); but other people have told me this is not true and the panel just displays whatever the tuner sends it and that it will work fine.

Has anyone done this? I'd love to buy a nice flat panel plasma tv, but only if I can take it home with me!

    thanks in advance,
    George

if you buy a panel as long as it will work power wise you can use any STB as a tuner suggest you go HiDef tho as Aus get 720p broadcasts

    George,

I have a home in Sydney as well as London and recently shipped my Panasonic plasma out along with all my other home cinema kit.

I have the old Panasonic TH425B with the TUPT600B tuner. I receive TV signals via a Foxtel cable decoder box which I plug directly into the tuner via a SCART socket.

The picture isn't great but, having spoken to a few AV specialists in Sydney, this isn't uncommon for quite a few areas around the harbour. Apparently the signal strength and distance the cable has to run into your house has a lot to do with it.

As you probably know plasmas are much more expensive in Oz so I would recommend taking yours with you.

    Hope this helps!
