Using a Panny PV500 for audio only - problem?

I would like to use my PV500 for listening to music from my iPod by plugging an AV cable from the headphone jack into the audio in on the front of the panel. However, the screen displays 'AV3' in white in the top left and this does not go away. I obviously do not want this for image retention reasons, so is there any way of getting rid of it? Can I effectively turn off the screen while leaving the speakers active? Similarly, if I use my DVD player to play an audio CD there is the Panasonic DVD logo on the screen which again I can't turn off (the DVD recorder is connected via SCART to AV2 and via component).

You'd probably be better of buying one of those home cinema packages, you'd get better sound that way and wouldn't run the risk of buggering your plasma
