Using a DVD/HDD as a music player

Hi all...

I'm looking to get a DVD recorder with a HDD and Freeview to act as the core input to my AV receiver via HDMI. When I started looking around I became aware that a few of them have Ethernet/USB port so you can effectively connect them to your network or other computers, so I got more interested in the idea of using it as a place to store and play music from.

However, most of them seem to be very restricted in terms of mp3 only format and certain number of albums/tracks. Maybe I'm looking for too much in one box as certain other features are probably more important (good upscaling etc...) but makes sense to use the HDD as a music 'store' as well as video.

Ideas?

For reference my current setup is:

Old LG DVD player
Sony STR-DTRG700 AV Receiver
LG AN 110 Projector
Sony TV (nothing special)
Tannoy EFX 5.1 speakers
