I just had a conversation with the very helpful Stuart Wright at Sagem

    In summary:
    - Sagem is unlikely to solve HDCP non compatibility on the existing Axium as they cannot identify a cost effective solution for this
    - A new 45" set is due to be in the shops in Q1 2005
    - New 45" set will be HDCP compatible
    - The new set will have a couple of extra features over the existing one (Subwoofer, 3000:1 contrast ratio)
    - Effectively the new set will replace the current 50" one
    - The new set is likely to be priced either at or below the current model

    Hope that is useful

    Dave

That conflicts with what I have heard from Sagem, Dave. I have been assured that the HDCP upgrade will be provided. This also came from Sagem.
The guy I spoke to was suggesting it would be available in January, and would be an engineer installed upgrade.

Phil, it is indeed contradictory, but thats what Stuart told me....I asked him about the liklely hood of an upgrade and he didnt think it was at all likely as he said that effectively they would have to replace all the circuit boards...Im no expert (in fact im whatever is an opposite of an expert re this stuff) just a messenger :)

You pays yer money takes yer chance...:) I shall wait and see what transpires in Q1.

Of course who is to say Sky wont change their mind/story....so might all be a total red-herring anyway.

For what it's worth, I spoke to a lady called Claire in the Technical Support dept at Sagem and she assured me that the upgrade would be available mid January.

    Time will tell!!

will there be a 50" display available for the new axiums?
Will be gutted if the 45" costs 2k.

Also noticed that but unfortunately that doesnt regard the 50" model only the new 45". If u read it doesnt say anywhere on the features on the 50" that it supports HDCP but if u check the 45" model it says this.
I see how it can easily be misinterpreted that the 50" model also supports HDCP which is not the case.
