Having trouble deciding on the above

Room is 3.6m x 4.8m ceiling height 2.6m walls are painted dark red upto 2m height then white with white ceiling so not overly bright but far from being a bat cave

Projector to screen would be 4.8m minus projector depth
currently projecting onto a grey painted diy screen 118" 16:9

I had been looking at buying a used ivc x30 but was just wondering what peoples opinions are on how this would fair against a new epson tw6700 or tw6800 or similar priced new projector

Budget is ideally under £700 if buying used or around £1500 if new

Ive has a JVC X30. Very difficult to beat at that price point if you can get a good one.

A new bulb and you’ll be competing against £3k projectors.

Was just unsure how much projectors had improved over the last 5 years

And the fact I would be buying an x30 blind having never seen one it’s impossible for me to compare

The x30 are an outstanding projector. Blacks are actually better on them than the newer equivalent models.

Honestly, for that price, you’ll have to spend £4K plus to start noticing significant improvements, and that will be mainly from 4K and HDR content.

I’ve currently got an Epson 9300, I’m upgrading it for a JVC X7900 which comes tomorrow. The X30 is comparable with the 9300. The 9300 has a sharper image and possibly less smearing, the JVc better blacks.

X30 is a cracking unit, as has been said you need to spend more than £1500 to better them new.
My white one will be going up for sale in 2-3 months once the dedicated room is done.

Edit - they're not the brightest though. 118" grey is quite a lot of screen to light up.

I had planed to get a new screen later in the year anyway
Possibly CIH about the same width as I have now
And could paint my current one white
In the meantime as I did think it may not be bright enough

    Hi Gary

Im upgrading from an X70 to the X7900 which should be arriving today. I have the X70 up for sale, its a bit more than your looking to spend on a second hand unit, but if you are local you are more than welcome to come round for a demo and compare the two.

Im in fife mate, a bit far for a demo lol. Id say if you can if you can find an x30 close by then try and get a demo, and then demo some new projectors at your price point at your local av dealer and go from there. Id have to agree with others that you might struggle to get better performance from a new projector at that price point.
