Just thought it might be a good idea for people to list any high end speaker bargains that they spot either here, on eBay or any other genuine website. Please don't link to your own ads or if you have a vested interest.

Anyway, I once drooled over a pair of Dynuadio Confidence C4s listed on eBay, didn't have funds at the time (nor the space) but if I recall correctly they sold for around £5k, what a bargain.

Our resident hifi sceptic Doomlord has found a pair of speakers I've never heard of called Coincident Technology Total Victory, they look kinda high end but they could be white van speakers for all I know. :D

At the moment a pair of Neat Ultimatum MF7s have caught my interest, they look gorgeous and I really like the design concept. The only thing holding me back is my total lack of experience with the Ultimatums. I know Arcam_boy has the stand mount versions to these and thinks very highly of them... if only I had more experience with speakers!

Anyway feel free to share any bargains you might spot.

    Cheers

I would love to buy those MF7's!

One of the mod's on hifi wigwam is running a pair with a massive Mark Levinson power amp. He come from B&W 802 and Classe amplification and is blown away.

There was a chap on the Wam selling a set of MF5's for around £2k which is just crazy as I paid more than that for my MFS's although mine are a premium finish

Pffft! They check out, and the seller is an established hifi business so I'm quite confidant they're the real deal.

I wouldn't swap the speakers really  I've genuinely not heard a stand mount quite as good myself although appreciate there are better available I've just not had the pleasure of hearing them.

Same with some floor standers, they usually have the scale and bass but can be a nightmare to sound good in all but the most 'perfect' acoustic rooms so I'm a stand mount man through and through.

I've just sold my amp so currently using my 5.1 system for everything.

I'm going to spend the next few months trying as much stuff as I can.

    Option 1 is a full Naim system - Pre/Power/Streamer

Option 2 is a fully valve based system

Option 3 is a valve pre amp and a crazy power mono - possibly Mark Levinson or a Musical Fidelity KW750

Ah but if you can get them to sound good...

Makes me chuckle when I see all these guys with stand mount speakers obsessing over amps, DACs, interconnects and cables just to squeeze that last ounce of bass and associated 'warmth' - if only they had just gone for bigger speakers in the first place. :D

You'd be surprised how low some stand mounts can go. Mine feature isobaric drivers and will rock it with quite a few floor standers and not embarrass itself.

Same with stuff like Wilson Benesch discoveries - they go silly low for a speaker full stop!

However I must stop taken this thread off topic haha!

A lot of somewhat dubious-looking speakers on that company's list, although I did recognise a few classics. Most of them are pretty ugly too... The Alexandria X2s were the standout bargains - $60k s/h - when you consider what they sell for new here (six figures I believe) that's not a bad price, even after shipping and duty. I mean, if you really really wanted a £50k loudspeaker taller than you are... I think my personal choice from that list would be the Infinities...

The only problem with buying used speakers is that most companies dont allow you to transfer the warranty to the new owner. Do they?

No idea about warranties, but most high-end companies take service and support fairly seriously. OTOH they probably also assume - perhaps not unreasonably - that their typical customers are rich! :D

The other speaker on that company's list that caught my eye were the Pipedreams - I remember years and years ago Ken Kessler mentioning them in some show report or other (from Las Vegas?) mentioning them and commenting that the price, like the name, was a pipedream. The original design was a tall pole with tweeters all the way up, and a huge cube with two 18" drivers in it, for each channel. Certainly different, though hard to see where the original $150k price went (other than the pockets of the dealers...).

Could anyone lend me £3.5k on the fairly certain probability it might be a L-O-N-G time before I repaid them? :D

When I saw the title "Used high end speaker bargains...." I have to admit I was expecting to find suggestions more along what I considered a bargain price, certainly not in the thousands!
But it's all relative I guess.

Anyway here is a pair more along the lines of what I'd start calling a bargain.
    A Pair of SD-Acoustics SD5 speakers for £200
Made a while ago but still quite current looking due to being finished in gloss black and comparing the original rrp of £1500 to similar speakers of the time (that are still current) - you'd probably be looking at a price twice that nowadays!
