    Hi there,

I know that deciding which hardware to buy is very personal, but I'd like your advice anyway. What to do....

    buy a used AVC-A1 (aprox. 6 years old) or a new AVR-3803.

Both are about my budget, the A1 costs a little less than the 3803.

The 3803 has a lot of new features, like a surround-back channel, but which gives the best quality sound? Anyone have some experiance with these models?

    PerryAV,
I'm currently asking the same question.
That said, the AVC-A1 6 years old is probably the A1D version, and according to a dealer is not as good as the A11SR which is currently going for quite keen prices.
I heard the 3803 and it's very very good, but if you like loud music etc the A11SR should be much better due to the larger transformer.

As is always the case, the A1 will have significantly better poweramp channels, the 3803 has the better processing/features.

i would go for 3803 unless your speakers are hard to drive, the a1 is worth max £500 or look out for a10se which you can upgrade to 7.1 by adding a power amp.
