I'm thinking of buying my first projector.

I would not be able to permanantly site it anywhere. I would have to put up the screen and then site the projector and adjust it for each occasion probably on a coffe table or perhaps dedicated stand.

I see most of you guys have them permanantly set up, ceiling mounted etc.

Does anyone else use a projector kept in a cupboard and lugged out when needed? or would I be better off with a big plasma/RP or whatever?

Yup, my PJ just sits on the coffee table. Power cable is under the sofa, DVI cable hides under another table where the DVD sits.

Takes me, say, 30 seconds to set it all up :)

With a pull down screen, it might take a bit longer, but that time is just waiting for the pj to "boot up".

Perfectly practical way of doing things IMHO, and very "partner friendly".

Big plasma's are great, but at a price. And you really can't beat a 6 ft wide projected image for movies :D
