USB sound from Yamaha RX V371 AMP

I have recently purchased a samsung external hard drive which I have plugged into my Samsung TV's usb socket, I am getting sound and picture through my TV speakers no problem.

However, I was wondering if there is a way to hook my Yamaha RX V371 AMP to play sound through my external hard drive.

I can only see HDMI and AV options on the amp and no USB option, before going out to any leads to see what might work I was wondering if anyone could offer an assistance. Thanks.

Check your tv to see if it has analogue preouts (red/white rca jacks) or digital preouts (optical/coax) which should be labelled 'audio out' or something similar. If it does then simply connect this to a suitable input on your avr. Failing that check to see if the tv has 3.5mm headphone output and connect this to the avr.

If all else fails you will need an external media player of which there are many available at reasonable prices.
