I currently have my PC linked to my AX5i via a long USB cable.

I also have a very long VGA cable and 2 very long PS2 cables going through to the lounge so I can hook my PC up to the plasma.

I was wondering whether I could stick a self powered USB hub in the lounge and take the existing USB cable from the amp and connect it to the hub.
Then I would just need a standard USB cable for the AX5i and a USB mouse and keyboard, all connected to the hub.
The benefit would be only 1 cable going back to the PC, instead of 3.

    Would this work?
I think so but just wanted to confirm if anyone has already done something like this.

Yep, that should work OK. 5m is the recommended maximum length for a USB cable IIRC although I've seen 10m + work without issue.

    Nice one.

I suppose I could just go for a wireless solution but as I use the PC a lot, I'd be forever recharging/replacing the batteries in the mouse and keyboard.

OK, I've come up with an even better solution.
I'm going to get a keyboard with a built in USB port which I can plug the mouse into.
Then all I need is a 5 metre USB extension cable plugged straight into the back of the PC.

Hopefully there shouldn't be any issues with the mouse due to the length of cable (5 mtrs + 1.5 mtrs + 1.5 mtrs)...

I've got 8m without a powered repeater working fine with a touchscreen.

    Thanks for the confirmation John.
Looks like I've got my quick and easy solution for keyboard and mouse in the lounge.
