Hi all, Just a quick question, I have a modem router which is connected to the pc via a lan cable. The router has a usb output as well, would it be possible to connect this straight into the Wii for the net connection.

    Many thanks tools42

you do realise the wii doesn't have an ethernet port? only usb.

if the OPs modem router is wireless, then the wii will connect out of the box. if it's wired only, he'll need the nintendo usb->ethernet adapter (not yet released)

or, he can sue the usb wifi dongle, plugged into his pc to create a wireless network for the wii to connect to. this requires the pc to be on to share the connection, though.

    a wireless router / wired connection to a hub / router doesn't

Any Ethernet to USb convertor will work with the Wii. Dont wait for the Nintendo one, head down ur local PC shop and pick up one for £15. Then ur sorted, mine works fine :)

I dont know if u visit GoNintendo.com. They ran a video about this were they showed u them setting up there Wii on a normal everyday Ethernet to USB convertor and it worked great. Have ppl actually bought one and then not got it to work, or are ppl just assuming u need the official one ?

I've been googling this tonight, it seems only dongles based on a certain chipset will work. Could you please let us know which dongle you have please?

"Someone on the Nsider forums discovered a working USB Ethernet adapter for those who wish to use a Wired Connection rather than a Wireless one. The adapter is a: KINAMAX USB 2.0 to RJ45 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-T Network Adapter which can be founded at newegg.com for roughly $20-25."

    Above taken from: http://www.wii-volution.com/news/wii-news/unofficial-usb-ethernet-adapter-for-wii.html

The Wii has the drivers for the nintendo usb ethernet adaptor pre loaded. The above adapter must use the same chipset as the nintendo one which is why it works. All USB ethernet adapters require a driver and you cannot install the drivers on the Wii.
