Usb 2.0

Just got a new HP netbook for the step-daughter - one of these:

HP Mini 210-3025sa Netbook - Grey at cheap prices | PC World

Attached a WD 2.0tb HDD and the machine told me it'd work faster if I attached it to a USB 2.0 port. Surely all USB ports on new machines have been 2.0 for years, haven't they?

Am I missing something? Do I have to set something up to force USB 2.00?

I get that message from time to time and have done on various computers. The HDD usually runs at USB2 speed regardless of the message and if it doesn't i just unplug it and put it back in. If it was running at USB1 speed you would know about it because it would be very slow transfering data. I don't know what causes it though

My old computer had issues with reading over 1TB drives via USB. Maybe that could be the issue with your laptop.

As I say, we'd just bought the netbook.

Later on it decided it needed to update. It had 57 updates to do .

Then it's had about another 20 since.

The message about the USB ports doesn't show up anymore.
