USA Playstation games

I know nothing about the Paystation 3 consol but my son has just bought one in the UK and asked me to purchase Call of Duty 4 while in the USA, I have just been informed by the sales assistant it wont work on a UK machine is this right?

PS3 games are Region Free. It is only Blu rays that carry region codes.

You need to be aware that with call of duty 4, the add on (map-pack) is region encoded.

He won't be able to download new maps for it with an american copy of the game.

region coded how ? from the region of the drive or would ya need a US psn account to get the maps ?

you could always buy a pre-owned one,from the likes of blockbuster/game/gamestation,over here in the uk,for about the same.

The 'game of the year edition' comes out tommorow in the uk, it has the 'variety map pack' included as standard (so you don't have to shell out £7 on the playstation store for it). You could probably find that online for around £40.

The region of the drive doesn't matter, all region games are compatible on all region ps3 machines.

The downloadable content for cod 4 is region encoded though, so you can't play the us mappack on a uk copy of the game or vice versa.
