US / UK Choices - Sharp 30" LCD or Sony / Panasonic 42" Plasma?

I'm off to the US for two years, so want to buy a TV there which will work both well there (for HDTV, regular channels and DVD) but will also serve me well in the UK when I return. For around $2500 reasonable choices appear to be the Sharp LC-30HV6U, the Sony PFM-42V1 or the Panasonic TH-42PWD6UY. To be honest this is the first time I've looked into this and the whole HDTV/EDTV Plasma vs LCD is a bit baffling.

So in short, anyone got any views on whether I'm better off with an EDTV Plasma or a HDTV LCD? I'm assuming that the bigger brigher Plasma screens win.

BTW The Sharp is NTSC only so I would need to convert PAL, whereas the Panasonic and the Sony both support PAL which is why I found them. The Sharp and the Sony both are 110-240v 50/60hz power supplies, whereas the Panasonic is 110v only (but 50/60hz so just needs a transformer).

Anyone any thoughts / ideas / help?
