    Hi, all.

I'm not sure if this belongs in here, or if it belongs on this forum at all, so feel free to delete if need-be.

Bascially, the upshot of my posting is, I'm planning on getting the new 32GB 3G(s) iPhone later on in the year. Reason being, I already own an iPod classic, and have used it daily ever since I bought it two years ago. I could do with a new phone, as the Nokia N95 I have, I bought off eBay, and I wish I didn't because I got stung by it...it works well enough, but one of the buttons was broken when I got it, and the battery life is shorter than me typing this post - and I'm a pretty fast typer!

Plus, some of the apps that you can get on the iPhone, I would actually use - the TomTom feature, for instance...I could do with that - My missus giving directions...not a pretty picture!

Now, here's the rub. I'm not prepared to pony up the £530 that O2 are asking for one, not when our American brothers and sisters, as usual, get the same items that we can, but only at a snip of the cost. £188 seems a lot more attractive than spending over £500, if you ask me!

I'm heading on holiday to Atlanta for DragonCon in September, and I was thinking of buying one and bringing it back with me, jailbraking and unlocking it on my return, and then getting an O2 Simplicity Sim/Web Bolt-On, and away I go.

Has it been possible in the past to do this with an American iPhone, and do you think it would be possible to do it with the new iPhones?

Sorry if it's been brought up before, but I tried looking for a relevant thread, but didn't see anything that covered this, especially with the new range of iPhones.

    Thanks, anyway!

You can't just buy the iPhone for $199/$299, regardless of the WWDC hype.

The $199/$299 price in the USA includes a 2 year contract with AT&T, in the same way you have to get an O2 contract to get the phone at a cheaper price here in the UK.

And they don't sell the 3GS on PAYG in the states.

Sorry to rain on your parade!

    This is interesting.
I could buy an iphone from France/Italy and use a Vodafone sim??
Would my IT people be able to configure it for email, using my vodafone mobile email account?
I've had a Blackberry Storm for two days, on trial.
It's just awful, it just cannot compete with the iphone.:thumbsdow

Better still, since I'm actually Australian myself, or an expat, I should say, but I still have an uncle living out there, I can get him to buy one for me, and ship it over.

    Simples!

I'm glad I actually brought this up now! :D
