Hi all

Just read that Samsung are being sued by movie companies:
http://times.hankooki.com/lpage/biz/200602/kt2006021919273711910.htm

Over the weekend, Bloomberg news reported Walt Disney, Time Warner and three other major film makers filed the lawsuit against Samsung in U.S. court.

They claimed that Samsung’s DVD players allowed consumers to avoid encryption features that prevent unauthorized duplication and demanded a recall of all the problematic products, Bloomberg said.

From the article Samsung seem to think it's the DVD-HD841 player which was sold in the United States between June and October 2004.

Nice to see the movie industry doesn't drag its heels! :D

I wonder if its referring to Macrovision, regional encoding or both.

Considering almost all DVD players can be made mullti-region either by firmware upgrades or remote control handset hacks and very few companies have been prosecuted it could be that the player allowed Macrovision to be switched off or was left switched off.

As the forthcoming HD formats are not going to enforce regional coding then it would seem a bit stupid if Samsung are being prosecuted over regional coding!!

from reading that link...it sounds like its the macrovision.

Reading on some other sites, the DVD-HD841 is HDCP compliant and there is a hack to disable it!
