Been lurking on forum for a while and now I need advice. Auditioned arcam, rotel, cyrus and linn eqpt and decided on

    Amp - Rotel RA 1062 (£595)
    CD - Rotel RCD 1072 (£595)
DAB Tuner pure digital DRX-701ES (£249)
Speakers Monitor audio silver S6 (£599)
    Turntable RPM4 (£350)
    True colours viper interconnect £69
    First Base £20

    Total cost £2477

I put urgent cos I am desperate to buy a new hifi.

Wot do you think of above. I may change RPM4 for Rega P3.

I am also looking for advice on an equipment stand.

Audio T offered price of £2350 is this a good deal?

    Any help very gratefully received.

are the S6 that much better than S5?

    Thanks

Have you heard this system? If yes, and you like it, then thats all that matters. If not, then you really need to listen to it (and others) before you decide...

yes have heard it and sounded the best of the ones I listened to but as a novice audio buyer just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions that I might not have considered.

Thats a nice little system....you may also want to consider the B&W CDM1 speakers or the new 705 if your budget will allow, and Spendor and Proac speakers in that price range also.
In any case,as long as it sounds good to your ears, thats whats required.

Thanks for that will read some more reviews and then perhaps audtion some of those speakers. What sort of deal can I expect i.e. what sort of money off do you think I could get.

By the way audio T in High wycombe have been very helpful and enthusiastic.

I don't think you'll get a significant discount off B&W speakers, but you may be able to negotiate cables etc instead.

My local Audio-T are also very helpful.

Thats a very nice bit of kit pal. I've always found superfi to give a good discount. I got a really good deal on my rotel gear, and my B&w's and stands. Your stuff is a step up from mine, so you could even get more off maybe.

    hello

I also fancy a great stereo system, but it is worth considering some alternatives. My suggestion is why not buy a high quality surround reciever and dvd/sacd/dva-a player.
The price of your amp+cd+tuner is 1450£, and that is going to buy you alot a stuff. Maybe consider a marantz reciever sr9300 which can be had from unbeatable for less than 1400£. This is going to give you a top of the line product that will perform great.
for just a little more money you can buy a marantz dvd6400 or dvd8300 or maybe just settle for one of those plenty inexpensive dvd models. You could also chose a marantz sr8300 instead of the sr9300 and save some hundred £.

You won't get a dab tuner but instead you will get system that can do dvd/cd/sacd/dvd-a and you can always add extra speakers for surround. plus you get a fancy remote control.

I have no particular reason to suggest marantz products other than the fact that the top end recievers are selling at good prices at unbeatable.

In my opinion there are to big negatives when buying a stereo system.

    1. A good regular cd player is expensive, but I think that top dvd players are likely just as good at playing cd's, and they can do a whole lot more than just that.

    2. If you want to listen to radio you need a seperate tuner, but if you buy a surround reciever you get one for free.

I hope this information is not to late.

I don't think a reciever can match up to a decent seperate amp. The tuner will not match up to a decent dab or stero tuner. I doubt you could buy a dvd player that plays as good as the rotel.

My hifi and TV / DVD etc are in seperate rooms. Therefore got hifi sorted now and will look at tv etc in new year. First impresions of the system are excellent. Speakers slightly bassy at present but once run in and fiddled with position will hopefully get better. Thanks for all the help btw.
