i need to buy a multi-region upscaling dvd player for a handful of R1 and R3 discs i have, but as i have a PS3 (160GB slim) too, i don't know how good a dvd player needs to be to outperform it, so i have two options

1) if the PS3 upscales normal dvd's well, then i'll just get something like the toshiba SD590 or XDE-500 for around £50 - £60 just to handle the multiregion.

2) if something like the Pioneer DV-610 does a noticeably better job than the PS3 of dvd upscaling, then i'll get that and use it for all the dvd's.

it will all be going out via HDMI via a denon amp into a 1080p 37" panny LCD, and i don't need USB or divx capability or SACD. appreciate any advice! :)
