If the program on Sky Sports HD1 is not showing as HD is it upscaled as the football first looks better on SPHD 1 than the Standard SP1 but it does not say it is in HD. This could be my imagination though opinions please...

    Hi

In a word yes it is up scaled.

However the HD box has a poor scaler in it so it can be pot luck on the overall quality, Not to mention type of TV, Calibration and leads etc.

    Hope this helps

Yep, all the HD channels which are not 100% HD (minus adverts) have SD content upscaled at source and broadcast at 1080i with the same bitrate (give or take) as the native HD programming.

To some this looks better than watching the SD channel and using the TV scaling and others it doesn't, it does depend upon how much the TV manufacturer has spent on that function which in some cases is not a lot. Same principle applies for the DVD players with scalers, no guarantee it will be better than what the TV can do itself.
