Upgrading The Drive

Got the HD box and want to upgrade to 500gb

So i just open the box and put the new drive and thats it, how will my recordings go onto the new drive

or do i have to use the copy+ software to copy from old one to the new one

what brand hard drive

Western Digital WD5000AAKS
