Could anyone tell me if this upgrade is still possible given the demise of Tag and, if so, how much it costs?

Am considering buying a second hand Av32Rbp192, but really want TMReq - don't know if I should hold out for a DP model, or buy this one and try to get it upgraded.

I would hold out for a DP as its a far superior machine. It would probably turn into a rather costly headache to get it upgraded through IAG. It would be much simpler to get the unit at DP spec

I believe it is approx 1k+.
You would be lucky to buy a 7.1DP secondhand for less than 2k.

Cost depends on age of donor unit. I would also buy a proper factory new DP and not a moddded one or upgraded unit. If an upgraded unit used a brand new motherboard that might also be tempting at the right price. I agree that a full spec AV32R/DP 7.1 will be over £2k second hand and worth every penny....Its still an excellent unit and always will be.....

Just out of interest, I bought a new DP from Sevenoaks about 3 months ago for a great price - it was even worth my while coming over to collect it.

Maybe there are still a few available??

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay?

And thanks to everyone else for yoru comments - I think I will holdout for a DP, tho tbh I am not sure I can even afford the single processor model right now!

Grab a DP while you can, I doubt it will be bettered for build or sound quality for a while..... IAG did release a lot of stock to Sevenoaks and hi-fi bitz etc. it would be worth having a ring round to see what the current prices are..

Thanks guys. I would dearly love a DP, but £2400 is out of my budget for now.

This does seem promising tho - earlier someone said I wouldnt see change out of £2k for a used one, but if they were selling new for £2400 recently then maybe that used price will drop a little..

I could certainly see myself being able to spend £1500 on one in the next 3 months, should I find one!

Second hand DP's are as rare as a rare thing.......People know what they have got and won't be seeling them much..... It would not surprise me if once the current new stock has been sold (and it might be sold already), prices will firm up as it is a £4k unit....... £2k is a very fair price for a 7.1 DP, £1.5K is letting it go far too cheaply...... Like I said grab one now or you may have a long wait.....

Ah yes i remember that day well.

That's the day you arranged to sell me your old processor, but instead left me driving round the centre of London for over an hour when Chelsea fans were celebrating & my wife wasn't well, & didn't even have the courtesy to telephone me to let me know you wasn't showing up  .

Holy S*** - I paid £3500  for mine Direct from IAG just after Tag had moved from Huntington.

Anyone in any doubt about buying the AV32 DP Shouldn't be - It's an unbelievable piece of HIFI.

had the SP before - no comparison.

    Go get one.

I got mine in March when they were shifting things at incredible prices. Im not sure how many people actually got DP's at that price but I had my order in on the first day that they appeared on the website.

The only problem is that if I fancy a change its going to cost me a small fortune.

    Cheapskate

    Was that a 7.1 THX2 unit.
I paid £3400 new a couple of years back for a 7.1 unit and couldn't care less how much anyone else gets them for, it consistantly brings a little happiness to my life!!.

If that is the case you did very well, i have seen the odd 7.1 unit going for £2000 but mostly £2500

It was a 5.1 the upgrade to 7.1 was available for a few hundred more but it was of no real interest to me and would have meant a wait of 6 weeks I think.

I always recommended people get the 7.1 unit regardless if they used it in 5.1 form as the 7.1 unit has a better feature set and those action switches...... As most of the 7.1 upgraded DP units used a new motherboard to facilitate the upgrade that would explain the 6 week job I suppose.....

I bought my machine as an ex demo SP 96khz 7.1 with DPL2 enabled in 2001 from Sevenoaks for £1750. I then had the 192khz DACs added for £350.00 by TMA and then the DP for what I believe was £1430.00. So all in all my machine cost me £3530.00 :) Not bad really as I got it upgraded one step at a time :smashin:

And cheaper than the £4k list which was part of Udo's vision of upgradablilty(bless him). As long as it works no-one can argue that it was value for money even via the upgrade route....

    Hi All,

If it helps I paid £3400 for my 5.1 AV32RDP and DVDFLR with PSM.

But shhhhhhh don't tell anyone !

I am really considering the 7.1 upgrade, also looking for T32R and a 100x5R, and they are very difficult to find at the 'right' price ! LOL

    Thunder.

I use these for my front 3 (at a similarly reduced outlay) and am really quite pleased to be honest.

Yeah I use em for L+R, I'd like a third but have never come across one yet. I must admit my Parasound still has more current drive but not as much refinement :)

The only thing I paid list price for was my original AV32R 5 or 6 years ago. I upgraded that to have the bp192 and DAB fitted as well as the various software options.

    Next buy was the 250x3R at £2k, CDT20 at £800 (I think), Calliope Centre at £600, 60P at £379, FLR at £1195, 100x5R at £699 and finallyt the DP 5.1 for £1750.

All of the above was new and the DP and 100x5R are still in their boxes

I've since sold the CDT for £400 and I wish I'd kept it as it was superb and since I've now got a spare AV32 and 60P it would have made a great 2nd system

Mine's a similar age to yours Kenny, & I've also gone down the upgrade path (but not DAB). As many have stated here, the machine is without peer, and the step to DP & TMEQ was probably the single most worthwhile upgrade I've ever made in all the many years I've been messing with Hi-Fi.

Unlike with DVD, there doesn't seem to be anything else on the horizon which is going to make me change to something else in the next few years.

Yeah you're right, the next BIG thing will be HDTV from Sky and (hopefully) from the BBC.

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will trickle through and the latest I've read is that Sony is proposing to make it compulsary that to view any movie in HD you have to be connected on line. The disc loaded will then be checked and the authorise the player to play the disc or if it's a dodgy disc de-activate the player

I'll stay with my FLR for a while now thanks :hiya:
