    Hi all

I need to upgrade my PC.
I usually purchase my PC Base unit complete from reliable online stores
like Mesh Computers esp since these places know how to match the
componets in order to get a stable system and can get the individual
quality parts cheaply. But they tend to be a little dear esp if all I want is an upgrade.

    My requirment is :

    Mother Board / Athlon XP 3200 / 1G or 512 Ram

I have researched online and found the Abit Motherboard to be the best
    for the price £46 :
    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=5853&GroupID=527

and a SATA high speed drive :
    http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/components/harddiskdrives/internalide/productView.htm?quicklinx=3GNS

I need my PC for :

Photoshop, playing dvds,mp3 playback, making dvds movies of home videos,
etc so its used quite heavily.

Id like to start a discussion on what would be the combination to get the
best out of my system. What ram should I use?
Where should i buy these components? I was thinking ofdabs & Microdirect

What do you advice? The last thing i want to do is buy another slighty
costly base unit only to find I could have done it cheap myself.
    Dell... eww yukk.

    Pls advise.

The Abit motherboard in that link is not a SATA board so the Hard Drive you specify wont work with it.

Spend a bit more and get the Abit NF7S v2. Buy 2 120Gb Hds instead of one 250GB - save money and increase speed you will.

Put your OS on one drive and documents on the other.

RAM - Go for 2x512mb PC3200. Crucial, Twinmoss, Corsair are all good.

Microdirect are very good. As are Scan. DABS tend to be more expensive.

True - I have just ordered the Asus A7n8xE deluxe so cant speak for it as yet.
The Abit NF7s V2 has 2 SATA and is RAID capable as well - I have 2 of these and they are very capable boards. Plopped in a Barton 2500 and overclocked to a 3200 without any grief whatsoever.
