Upgrading older pc or buy new?

Hi all. My son is wanting a pc for gaming and to connect his oculus quest. I have an aging pc he uses at the moment for his gaming and i was wondering if anything can be upgraded in the following specs or is it just as easy to buy a ready made pc.

Current pc specs

Intel® Core™i5 Quad Core Processor i5-3470 (3.2GHz) 6MB Cache
ASUS® P8Z77-V LX: USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, ATI®CrossFireX motherboard
Gtx 750ti GPU
450W Quiet 80 PLUS Dual Rail PSU

Any info would be great

I had a similar setup before switching over to Ryzen. It did involve a new CPU, motherboard and RAM, but I bunged all the old into a new cheap case and that's now the family PC :).

What's your budget and what kind of games is he looking to play? I'm pretty sure you're looking to replace everything, especially if you're connecting the Quest and want to play Alyx etc.

He mainly plays roblox and Minecraft so not anything that requires a high end pc. I've had the current pc for almost 10 years haha which I bought from pc specialist and only changed the gpu. Its just the oculus quest is the issue. Not sure on budget yet as just getting an idea of what's required but it's looking at a newer pc I think.

Ah gotcha. My daughter plays Roblox and Fortnite on the family PC mentioned above with a far worse GPU than yours :). Low settings on Fortnite but she doesn't care (looks similar to the Switch).

I think you're right, the Quest is going to be interesting. I've really only played Alyx but you need consistent FPS otherwise it's barf central.

New. You'd have to upgrade most parts. The PSU is old I assume so will likely need updating. The rest is fine for Minecraft but to run VR you need quite a bit of power
