    It had to happen.

I've had a Sony HS1 for a few months, and have been very happy with the picture, apart from black level, the pq was peretty good for £1600. Had a few mates round to watch the World Cup. Now one of them wants to buy my HS1, giving me the chance to upgrade after only 5-6 months.

Went to dem the SIM200 at sevenoaks, it had much better blacks, better colours and a more filmic image, although not as sharp as I expected. Didn't see any of the famous rainbow effect t:D They've got the 200 at £3600. , although the dem was the DM version with a faster colur wheel etc.

Question is- Are there better solutions out there for that kind of money?Would I be better off with a standalone SIM2 or 11T , or eg a Panny AE100 with lots of tweaks? What about the new pjs from Toshiba etc? I don't want to go the HTPC route as the pj is in my lounge, What will the PRO V do for me and do I need it?

    HEEEEEEEEELP!!!

DVD- Tosh 510 multi region RCE comp, via component, 6ft width screen, 1.3 gain throw dist approx 11ft

    Any advice?

I had an HS1 too and got the upgrade bug very quickly.

I've had a VW11 for 7 months, and have absolutely no intention of changing it. Chalk and cheese.
It really came into its own when I got a greyhawk screen.
Good blacks, zero chicken wire effect, just brilliant.

The HS-1 is good on a budget. The VW11 is superb at its bargain MRP. Look around and you get it for considerably less than 4K.
At that price I'd almost buy two of 'em!

I'd consider a DLP unit with a 16:9 panel, but they ain't cheap!
The SIM200 is good, but has a 4:3 panel and rainbow effect.

I don't see rainbow effects but I wouldn't want to spoil the show for guests that do. Apparently it is very distracting - even on the 200 DM.

    Just my twopence worth!

Hi Mike.... why don`t you read up about the Plus Piano, it`s a DLP and has a similar if not the same chip as Iscan pro in it for picture scaleing, ans by all accounts is a great machine I`m waiting for one my self as they are not available untill July,( I`ve been told via a phone call) the 3100 will be less than £2000 i think as it was only £2100 before the new model came out check it out at

I take it you have spoken to Brian at Rapesco so what is the latest news? Has he divulged how they intend to distribute the Piano? Any mention of when we might see the HE-3200? Did he give an actual date or the normal 'July-ish'?

And are you going for the 3100 or will you hold out till the 3200?

Unfortunately I am going to wait till the 3200 eventually makes its appearance here. The VGA input (I want to run photo slide shows from my laptop), shorter throw zoom lens, the 504 chip and progressive scan input acceptance have tipped the balance for me.

So here's hoping the 3200 will be released here will be this side of Christmas, otherwise I am going to have to import - anyone know what might be the best channel (PriceJapan??).

thanks for the replies guys- Perhaps I should look again at the shortlist. Do I take it that there is a general consensus that you will get a better image from a less expensive pj and specialist image processor, or a more expensive pj on its own?

Also is it true that the Plus Piano doesnt have a zoom lens? And what about the overall black levels on the 11T? do I need to buy a grey screen to get decent contrast?

Yes have spoken with Brian, I hope he`s not kidding me..He says he`s not sure which model he will be selling here but it will be july so next week we`ll see.
I have spoken to AV sales and they are hopeing (I think) to become an agent, it`s a funny purchaseing system I believe but so long as it happens I`m happy. I`m really getting fed up of waiting. I wont mind either model however I`m sure the 3100 will sufficient for me
