I've installed a new LG 4040B which has firmware A300. I can't read bulkpag DVD-R's. Would the upgrade to A301 from the LG site help ?

Also I read that I can't install the firmware update unless :-

1.Have the GSA-4040B connected to the secondary IDE channel as a master drive alone.

This is impossible to do on my pc. The master drive is the HDD. The DVD writer is on primary slave does it really matter or not ?

Has anyone else updated NOT following the above 'rule' ?

Why can't you make the LG secondary master? Does your motherboard only have 1 IDE channel?

I have just ordered this writer, but I won't get it until next week. :(

I could perhaps but I don't want to screw things up. I also have a DVD-ROM drive and a CD writer also installed

I don't know why it's nessasary anyway as with a CD writer's firmware upgrade this was'nt an issue which IDE channel you used. Where did you order from btw, hopefully ebuyer!

That is why the firmware exists. It also reads princo at 2x instead of 4x.

I don't have any need for 4x media, so I still have the original 104 firmware.
