    Hi,

    Need some help to compile a short list of players to replace my current Toshiba SD500E DVD video Audio player please.

    Rest of the kit is as follows;

    In-Focus 5700 DLP projector
    7ft 16x9 Stewart screen
    Denon 3802 Receiver
    M+K VX100 sub
    Anthony Gallo Micro speakers, 6.1 set up
    Pioneer 2950 LD (can't remember when used last!)
    PS2
    Netgem freeview box
    SKY+ (when I get round to ordering it.. :oops: )

    Was thinking to spend up to a maximum of maybe £500 (ish) and ideally wanted the following features/attributes;

    DVD Audio and Video (SACD would be good too)
    HDMI/DVI/Component
    Multi region, RCE enabled
    and...er...totally awesome picture and sound of course :thumbsup:

    With that in mind I was thinking.....

    Denon 2910
    Denon 2900
    Harmon Kardon?
    Pioneer?

    Cheers for the help :lesson:

    I have a Pioneer 868 so I'm biased, but the 668 would seem a good idea. :)

    The 2910 suffers from macroblocking, the 2900 doesn't but doesn't have HDMI IIRC. I personally don't like Denon's stance on multi-regioning .. they provide firmware to dealers but but seem to disclaim responsibility for modified players.

    The HK25 was a well-thought of machine, not sure if it's still around.

    Thanks Robin :hiya:

    You're right about the lack of HDMI for the Denon 2900.

    I will have a look at the Pioneers, just never been a fan of their sound and flimsy build...sorry :smashin:

    The HK DVD31 looks a lovely bit of kit and at around £300 not silly expensive. Doesn't have SACD though, but to be honest I don't really need that. The HK DVD25 was a lovely little player as you rightly say.

    Also noticed that Panasonic DVD S-97 at well under £200...lot of features for the ££££

    "Flimsy build" :eek:

    My 868 is far from flimsy, admittedly I've never handled a 668. I think the 575 is less robust.

    There are many comments about the S97 on here, it seems to be well thought of generally. However I tend to stay away from players that need 'hacks' to MR them.
