I just got a rdxs32. Seems to be very particular in the drive mechanism.
My old APEX dvd player wouldn't ever have any issues reading any media.

I was thinking if the drive in the toshiba is just a regular IDE PC drive, I would think logically one might be able to substitute a different drive. Provided that Tosh didn't put some kind of special firmware on it.

    Has anyone looked?
    Or tried it?

What do you mean by "Seems to be very particular in the drive mechanism."

HDD replacement.....well, that's been discussed/talked about in these forums a few times, general concensus seems to be forget it......it is just a regular IDE HD (A well-known brand...Name escapes me), go ahead if you dare and report back.

well I say "particular" because, sometimes I put in a disc and it sits and sits, then says disc is damaged or something like that. I take it out and put it back again and it works fine.

I have an extra sony 4x dvd +- r/rw drive I could put in that has given me no problems at all.
I just got the thing, so I don't want to me taking it apart to look.
I can still exchange it if I need to.
