Not sure where to start. This is where I hope you experts can help.

    I have the following setup

    Phillips pw329616 tv (Dolby Digital
    Harmon Kardon Av100 amp
    Mission 731 pro speakers
    Pioneer 545 dvd
The cd player is a sony (best buy)

I like my music but is also new interested in Home cinema. I am not sure wheather to get a Sub, get a new amp or new speakers. I can't afford to make too many changes at present because of budget (max £500)

What do you think will have the most impact on my set-up

    Hi

Have you got speakers all round or just the two Missions and your using the TV speakers for AV??

To be honest a decent sub will give you a big improvement but if you´re using the TV speakers I´d say you´d be better getting a centre and rear speakers and another amp/receiver.

500 quid should get you a Denon, Marantz, Yamaha or even Harmon Kardon amp and a centre & pair of rear speakers from Mission so they match your existing ones.

Richer Sounds have some good deals at the moment.

    cheers

    Jase,

My tv is dolby digital with rear speakers. I have connect to my amp and use my missions as extra fronts. In this mode the tv speakers act as centre. My front room is not big so I do not want too many speakers around the place. Also my daughter has started to crawl and touches anything she sees.

I will not want to sacrifice the music abilities for HC either

In that case I´d still recommend another centre speaker and pair of rears (Mission 77DS perhaps) and another amp. You could then connect the Pre-Outs of the new amp to your existing amp (if possible) thereby gaining AV performance (due to superior processing for Dolby etc) and not losing out musically either.

The Harmon Kardon range of amps is quite musical anyway so maybe worth looking more towards them.

I think you'd notice a big improvement in both music and av with a good sub, eg REL Strata. There's not much for your baby to break either. I got a strata II about 5 years ago an its the best purchase I've made in 10 years. Capable of being both subtle and fun.

Thanks for the replies. I have decided to add a sub to my system for now until I can afford more. I do not want a big sub. Any recommendations welcomed
