...a pair of Miller & Kreisel K4's. I put this purchase off for so long...so on Thursday, I bit the bullet, drove to 7oaks and paid £450 for a brand new pair of (ex display - not demo) titanium & silver K4's. They have never been connected to a system before so are far from run in. Boy - are we gonna have some fun with these!!!

I used to have 2 pairs of Eltax HT's configured in an extended surround system. The sound was good, but there was always that little bit missing. They were simple to put up using the supplied brackets, but a small niggle is there isn't a great deal of room between wall & speaker. So if you'r using chunky cable on the rears, prepare to replace it...

But...having lived with these for 2 days now, coupled with my M&K LCR55's and Velo CHT15 sub, it's like an entirely new system. There are sounds coming from behind and to the side that just weren't there before. Watched the remake of Flight Of The Phoenix last night... First time I have ever heard the CHT "in action", but the sounds coming from around the room were at times, scary!!

I have them hooked up to a middish range Onkyo SR TX702 THX receiver with all THX post processing switched off. I think I can say that along with the CHT, these K4's have to be the best upgrade purchase I have made...

Now, going to whack some DVD audio discs on tonight...that should keep the neighbours awake...

Sounds good Brian, how would a pair of these be for integrating into a non M&K system? I'm tempted to direct the front end of my equipment more towards stereo replay (seriously tempted by the Onix Rocket RS550's) but would a pair of these or something like it blend in well with movies?

Currently using Logitech computer satellites as rears so there's plenty of room for improvement! :)

The K4's are rather good aren't they. Prior to buying them I used to play my DVDA and SACD in stereo as I thought that multichannel surround didn't sound good. I didn't realise that a change of rear speakers would change the soundfield so much and now it sounds great.

I seriously can't reccomend them highly enough. They are tripoles so will envelope you in sound. They are also well made (pretty dead when you knock them) and the drivers and all components are high quality.

When I added them, it seriously sounded as though I had replaced all 7 speakers in my system. I have gone from an extended surround set up to a 5.1 set up...and this one sounds more "cinema like" due to the nature of the tripoles...

One thing though...if you're running pants front speakers, I wouldn't reccomend buying these. It'll cost you more in the long run when you go out and upgrade your fronts as well....'cos that's what'll happen!! :D

    Hi family guy
I think most people that look at the k-4s think you arnt getting much speaker for your money so dont bother, but as you have found out they are little jewels glad you like them but i bet you were sweating it when you parted with the cash :D .
    Cheers Gonzo.

You're right mate...I brought these on reputation alone. Plus I already owned a set of M&K fronts so I knew what kind of quality I would be getting...I just didn't realise HOW good... :D

I have been thinking of getting M&K Column rears to appease the wife but the K4s are pretty small even if they aren't hidden. Does anyone know how they compare or if there is another M&K tripole worth listening to?

    Thx guys

    Pete,

The K-4s are the rears that were used in the m&k room at Bristol (open Range shootout)

    Mornin'

M&K Xenon Surround-25, half the size, twice as potent and even better finished!!!

My next purchase is the Xenon LCR-35's and then the surrounds to go with them. They really are awsome as speakers go let alone for their size.

I'm getting some in for an audition for myself if anyone is interested!!!

    Regards

    Mornin' again!

Forgot to add that in the next couple of months, M&K will be producing the Xenon's in a polished Piano Black  :smashin: Which does look beautiful.

    I have had the K4's
    SS150 THX
    M&K Columns.
The Columns are the best in MY system (Although my dealer argues that a well set up pair of SS150's are the best)
Also they have the THX certified columns which has basically the parts of the SS150 in them.
If you can afford them then the upward firing Columns are amazing and easier to place if your room shape is awkward. After hearing them in RAGS system, i could not resist. :D
