ANy suggestions for new amp (and source). Budget £400 - £600

Have seen Pioneer VSXAX3 amp for £500 from Richer Sounds. (but this doesn't have Pro LogicIIx - whatever that is) Denon also seem to get v. good results lately.

Am keen to get best value for money, but don't want to buy a receiver that is "way over" the standard of the rest of my kit. Not really intending to do any other upgrades as CRT purchase is likely and that will take large portion of funds !!!

Prologic IIx only extends the sound field to 7.1 speakers rather than 5.1 and really isn't that great a leap.

The AX3 is a superb amp and is certainly worth the Richer Sounds asking price. The question at this point is whether or not you want to spend that much?

    Timothywood & Kier,

See what I wrote on page 3 regarding Onkyo's new SR-702 and Yamaha RX-V2500, and the prices are around £550 with delivery from Germany!

    Thread - Marantz 7500, Denon 3805 or NAD T753?

Wonder what the next model down the Onkyo SR-602 is like, this seems to be around £340 from the same firm!!!

    Pat,

I think you should divide the euro price with the exchange rate of 1.4 rather than 1.6 (it was a long long time ago it was on 1.6, around 2years ago ;p).

You'll find all the lowest prices from my thread here - thread, otherwise http://www.gersdorf-shop.de/shopindex.htm has it for slightly cheaper at 529+delivery, compared with 544+delivery.

www.avsforum.com has more owners of 602 as it has been out there for a slightly longer time, and they the owners are well happy with it, and also very happy with Onky overall. 602 lacks THX, all pre-outs, advanced 32bit dsp,rs-232c port, slightly less power.

    Wasabi,

Whoops  I had actually written the rate down as 1.41, must be the celebrating I did last night!

    Price should have been £386.

Thanks as always for the info!
