Upgrade Question

I'm wanting to update from 2.2 to 2.2.1 and I'm jailbroken. Want I want to know is that if I do a clean install ie: set up as a new phone and start afresh, then resycn after the update will this put back in mail settings etc.. Or does setting up as a new phone delete all your back ups as well?

I know I will loose my 3rd party apps... Well going to back them up with appbackup 1st, but just want to do a clean install with out loosing my apple mail settings and apps?

I've searched this but can't find a answer, people seem to have so many different ways of upgrading and just want it to go as smooth a possible !

Thanks

I did my update yesterday from 2.2 on a jailbroken phone and this is the procedure I followed from hutch:

This is what I do every time I upgrade.

PLEASE NOTE TO BACKUP CYDIA APPS YOU NEED THE PROGRAM APTBACKUP - NOT APPBACKUP

If you havent got it already install AptBackup through Cydia and do a backup
Then sync with iTunes (this backs up your list of installed Apps)
Update to latest Firmware in iTunes
Run Quickpwn
Install Aptbackup through Cydia
Restore through AptBackup

I first backed up using AptBackup and then updated to the latest firmware through iTunes, just let iTunes do it thing.

Ok thanks again fayraz...sorry called you hutch in previous post.
No worries, I was a bit cautious at first but it is very straight forward. Once iTunes has finished just run QuickPWN on your phone and download the AptBackup from Cydia and do a restore. This is what I did and it worked perfectly the only thing is you will need to re-organise your springboard and some settings in your apps.
