upgrade or buy new elite?

I've had my xbox just over a year, I got it free with a phone contract so was just the core system.
I bought a memory card straight away and have got a wireless pad and hd-dvd, but now I need more memory so I'm thinking about getting a hard drive.

But.. I'd also like a HDMI connection, so do you think its worth selling the core to buy a new premium or elite?

Will HDMI offer any benefits over componant? Running on 1080p LCD.
I have the audio connected via optical to my amp, is this possible with a HDMI system as I don't have HDMI input in my amp.

To be honest if you buy VGA then there isnt a real difference between HDMI and VGA. But you cant really see the difference between the HDMI and component, but if you want HDMI-like then buy VGA. I would say that keep your core and just buy a harddrive unless you like the black colour which its not worth it TBH. Hope I helped.

I have a 360 premium. Was thinking of getting the elite also. What is the VGA lead and would it work with my system.?

plus i believe the 360 upscales dvd via vga but not via component. (could be mistaken on that though)

I think your probably right, I think I'd be able to get £100-130 for my Core, which leaves ~£170 difference. So I'll get a 20gb and stick with componant.

Instead I'll probably buy a PS3, mainly for the Blu Ray player, and GT5 when its out.

Its worth mentioning that when using Component you are limited to 1080i for HD-DVD's, might be worth upgrading to a VGA cable if your TV can accept a 1080p signal through VGA.

I'm pretty sure that my TV can accept 1080p through component and VGA.
I'll look into getting the VGA cable as I didn't realise there was an issue.

Never tried vga on my old core, but hdmi on my elite reduces the jaggies i used to get through component, and if like me you like racing games it's an important thing. Although this might be tv specific.

You won't regret it dude, fantastic blu ray player as well as dvd upscaler, does the job perfectly and also absolute mint as a media server.

Cheers for the info on the cable guys, just bought an official VGA so I will compare and see.
I think I'd stick with VGA though for 1080p on HD DVDs.
