I have noticed several Yamaha DSP-A1 / AX1's coming up on ebay for very reasonalble second hand prices. What, if any, sound quality upgrade would it be from my DSP-A2 to an A1, AX1 or even AZ1.

Strangely, at the time the A2 came out (which was a few months after the A1) it was reported that the A2 actually sounds better. Not certain that this is correct, I never heard the A2 but I am quite happy with my A1.

However I do think that an "upgrade" from A2 to A1 does not really make much sense. Choosing an AX1 or AZ1 maybe, but you should listen to them in direct comparision (difficult of course if you want to buy via ebay) and check the features/connectivity against your requirements.

Cheers Reiner, that what I thought.

In that case where should I go next for a significant step up in sound quality, Yamaha DSP-Z9 or Denen AV1-SE/SR/SRA or do I need to go to separate processor and power amps, and I suppose that gets big money ??

My only requirement is to plug my DVD and SKY+ for a 5.1 set up, time spent is split about 75% movies and 25% music (ordinary CD only)

    Bloody psycho amp that!

I went, I listened, I soiled my pants...

...I still bought an AX10 but it did have the fact that I could get the AX10 for half the price of the Z9 in it's favour. If it had been retail prices for either then it would have been a more difficult decision.

Hey - you *BOUGHT* the amp so it's a permanent fixture now ... a girlfriend isn't yet a permanent fixture.

(This man has his priorities right.)
