Currently my setup is as follows:

    Mission 775e mains
    Mission 77c centre
    Mission 77ds rears
    Servo 15 sub.
    Yamaha DSPA1 amp

Whilst my mains are superb, I feel that the centre speaker is the weak spot in the whole set-up. In fact, I wish I'd kept my old 75c centre instead, as I swear it was better (bought the 77c because initially I thought there wasn't a huge difference and it was in Cherry....matching my mains:rolleyes: ). It doesn't sound as "crystal" as I think it should, and I'm conscious of the difference between the mains and the centre.

The rears whilst performing adequately, do struggle a bit at high volumes (depends on the DVD). Given that I'm moving in about 5 weeks time and I'll soon be able to watch every movie at reference level :)devil:     ) I'm wondering if it's time to upgrade.

The big Q is, what should I be looking at to upgrade to? The biggest restriction is funds :)suicide: as always), ideally I wouldn't want to be spending more than £800-£900 on a 2nd hand speaker setup.

What would be a good compliment to my Yammy A1? Bearing in mind they would be driven quite hard.

I've noticed in the av-classifieds there is a set of M+K K series speakers for sale, K7s and K4s which looks interesting (and roughly in my price range). Although they're satellites, that doesn't really matter as all my speakers are set to small and all bass is routed through the Servo 15 (or does it matter?). Only problem is I can't find any reviews anywhere for them.

What else could I look at?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    cheers
    Matt

    K4 & K7 are reviewed here

One thing that you may consider is to keep your existing rears and blow the whole budget on the front three, which is what I did

    Thanks Ian, review looks good.

I wonder how my A1 would handle 4ohm speakers though, anyone running something similar with their yammy?

On a different note, I would not skimp on side/rear channels. I guess you could always use whatever you have already as side/rears, upgrade the front three (if worth it in the first place?) then look around for quality sides/rears.

Don't need to go daft on the price on sides/rears, but don't buy crap either.

I'd ditch that 77c (which was a half-way designed centre, only one active drive unit and one passive, am I right in thinking that it has a silver passive cone?) and get the much better 77c1. I wouldn't get rid of the 775e's as they are bloody good speakers, and though you may be tempted for a MK package, you will lose musical abilities (if thats important to you, but if its an AV set up only, it wont matter then). I've got the baby brothers to the 775e (773e) and am keeping it for the next 5 years at least!

I think you know my views - there are M&K and there are lesser speakers :)

Mine (which you have heard) are comparatively rare but the S85 is more common and occasionally come up on the second hand market if you keep an eye on the usual places.

    Thx Adz;)

Ian, must admit I was impressed by the S85s, but like I say, my budget is around £900 tops (which needs to include stands). Someone sell some 2nd hand ones!

hmmm, any views on the KEF TDM range? Some going in teh classifieds. Not worried about stands for those as I can bolt them to the wall. Look a bit pricey though, considering their age, and not sure how well my yammy A1 will drive them.

Ladies and gentlemen, the decision is in. Currently 3 of these puppies are on order:

Now the big Q is, do I need one of these
    [IMG]
to make em sing? I think I'll try them just with my A1 for a while and see if I need to make myself any more broke than the above 3 have made me! ;)

I'd run them with your A1 for the time being as the Yamaha is no slouch and should cope with them pretty well. Unless you feel you really need a Rotel poweramp! :D

I still can't see any pics but as I can use edit mode on your post I see that the pics are titled MPS1510 and therefore assume that you have very wisely plumped for the same front speakers as me.

You won't regret it. Now all you need to do is get shot of that great lump that you call a subwoofer and buy something decent :D

Since I bought them I have been to shows at Manchester and Bristol, listened to what everyone has to offer and returned home happy. As they do duty in my living room it is shame that they are so ugly but you can't have everything.

The only other speakers that I have heard that have tempted me have been the tiny Leema Xen at £950 per pair

    haha, good one;)

That was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away though.....

In hindsight it's a little spooky as our systems are almost identical speaker-wise and probably similar in amplification. The subwoofers are undoubtedly different, I think yours is made of cardboard? ;)

Someone who has had more Servo15's than I have had hot dinners, who makes his own super subs and can spot a null or peak in the room after a brief wander round came round yesterday to listen to my cardboard tube.

Maybe when he has a minute to spare he can make some comments, as I am sure that people would like to hear what a biased Servo 15 owner makes of an SVS

I'm buying these speakers from Smurfin in 2 weeks with that 77C1 for £340.

    Good buy have I made?

Coupling them with 771Es for rears, will this work well??

    Terrible buy! Disastrous buy!

On a serious note, with the 771Es for rears it should work well. The 775s are potent in their own right, the centre not as much so but it's still a good lil centre.

Over the last 12 months I've got increasinly "picky" about the sound of my system tho, especially the centre which I've not been happy with. And dare I say it, partly its just a case of ugrade-a-litus;)

In terms of price, the black set of 77 series have been advertised by superfi in the past at silly prices, but they were black, never in stock, and possibly graded stock. So personally I think the £340 is a fair price (but of course I would say that).

Oh of course - the price is perfect by any reckoning of the book, and I wasn't questioning it.

It's just really me being curious of the voicing between the 771Es and the 775E.
