Just bought the Limit dvd player - apparantly It can play DVD-Audio and SACD.

I want to get an amp that has the following features:

    6.1 dd (ex)
    dts (ex)
    sub out

    and I think I need a 6 chanel input for the dvd-a?

    Don't need am/fm etc.

    Any ideas folks?

Any AV Amp (or Reciever) will do you as long as it has a digital input. You don't need the 6 channel input as the Amp will decode the DD or DTS stream sent digitally from the DVD player.

The Marantz SR5300 is a very good Amp, but is £330 ... looking at Richer Sounds, you can get a suitable Amp from about £150.

The Marantz SR4300 is exactly the sort of thing you need.

It has the required digital input, and has DD-EX and DTS-ES Matrix and Discrete so will decode all current sound formats. It also has PLII for listening to analogue stuff off TV, video, etc.

You will of course need to add a set of 5 or 6 speakers - not sure if you already have these.

    Argento,

I am not 100% sure but I don't think that the DVD player can send a digital stream for SACD and DVD-A.

If not you need an AV Receiver that has multi-ch (6.1 or 5.1) analog in.

Could you post the DVD player model, please?

My appologies I misread what was said RE the 6 ch inputs.

Yes if you wish to use SACD and/or DVD-A then you will need 6 analogue inputs as there is no digital (standard) transfer for multi-channel audio at the present time. The Marantz SR4300 will do this.

you need the six channel input if you want to use dvda and sacd tho, 5300 will handle that.

Thanks for all your help folks, I've ordered the amp with RS!

One last question, which no-one (including RS) can seem to answer:

The Limit player can do dvda - but people are saying different things about sacd compatability!?

    Any ideas,

    Rich
