My mum has age related macular degeneration (amd) and is going blind.

Clearly she can't see the difference between SD, HD and 4K, she currently has a tiny 39" , what would you all recommend getting her?

I'm thinking of just the biggest panel she can get, would this be best?

I'm not sure about the details of the condition but perhaps a brighter TV would help as well?

The AVF review found the Hisense M5500 wasn't very bright, so perhaps LG's or Samsung's cheapest offerings at 65-75" would be a better bet, they're both around 400cd/m².

Thanks both, brightness is interesting and something that I'll talk to her about. Leaning towards the Hisense at the moment.

Why don't you take her to Currys to view some tv's??

Brightness for normal TV eg for SDR usually maxes out at a calibrated 320 nits or so. Most if not all TVs will manage this. It's HDR where you need more brightness. Anything above 250 nits is more than bright enough for a bright room.
