The Berliner Philharmonic have an app on Sony smart TVs ,and they are linked with DG . There are I understand other ones as well. Generally dealing with the classical Operatic repertoire. There are similar pay premium channels on a number of satellites .eg A French music Channel on I think HotBird or Astra19.2called Mezzo.
The world has moved on. What I had stated was for the Studios to make money from these archives, they will likely licence the production of SACDs and DVDA to the few specialist houses selling these higher priced premium products. In addition these specialist subscription channels exist. The video in many casss just consists of cameras panning and scanning a seated orchestra ,while the Music in multi channel format is provided in Hi Res. Opera is obviously a special case and needs the visuals. In some cases they might even dispense with the video, and just send a sequence of stills .The future of high quality music transmission is via HDMI, not SPDIF,and certainly not RCA connection.
There is no percentage in these studios flogging their "family jewels" for a pittance to be cast by Amazon or Deezer.
HDMI is a growing standard. There are plenty of things which are "known " but untrue. The better Blu-ray players currently separate out the HDMI audio stream to reduce contamination. DVD A never developed, rather than being obsolete, and SACD is moving into the niche market, and is the future Vinyl. SACDs major problem is that it is basically a single company product ..Sony , and has to fight mediocrity at every level.
The Classical Music business and Opera and Jazz may not be your cup of tea ...( The latter two are not mine) , but they are the Golf and Sailing side of the music business,
and appeal to the same clients ,with lots of serious money behind them. A Record of say the Beatles or U2 will have global sakes of many millions over a short period, whereas a Classical work will attract smaller sales annually but over decades.
