I'm after a sim free sony z5 compact in UK.

I've seen the best price from legit companies is £429.00

o2, will do it for £360 but it will be locked to o2 network...

research says to me ~20 quid to get unlocked.. so still saving £50!

will the device have o2 mods to the android OS, or just a few apps that i can delete?

would i have to root device to flash to normal sony os?

basically shall i spend an extra £50 to get a nice clean unlocked phone?

I think 02 put their logos on the phone like on the start up screen, so when you decide to eventually sell it in the future it would put people off as you wouldn't really want to be on Vodafone with 02 logos flashing up.

If that were me i'd always look for a UK Sim free phone, it's easier to sell at a later date and you don't have to wait for the network that it's tied too to release updates. Check the classifieds on here as people get upgrades, they sometimes sell them on if they are happy with their current phone etc.

sim free's are always a better choice, warranty with the maker, not your telco, and they get software updates faster, also less bloat-ware.

carphone warehouse phones use to be all simfree, unsure if still are

...and in fact most (or all?) phones supplied by giffgaff, and by three are supplied unencumbered, too.
