    *Update

Phone was posted on the 16th and was sent signed for.

Dwpman has mentioned that he has not received the phone but it has been signed for.

Correct address was used and this has been confirmed. I’ll be going to my local post office to try and see what happened and can call Royal Mail for more help.
Dwpman will be speaking to postman and we’ll see what happens.

Can mods advise what happens in this situation, is there anything else we can do?

If it has been signed for then you’ll be able to see a signature online, please add a copy of it to this thread.

@dwpman does this name or scrawl resemble your neighbour’s name or location?

I’m guessing it’s been signed for somewhere close by.

Hi, the signature is nothing like mine. The delivery timing (early morning) also does not make sense...it would have to be an exceptionally superfast service to get any package from Derby to Isle of Man for delivery before 9.00 o'clock...nothing is delivered in my neighbourhood until about 11.30 am, so I can say with some certainty that it has not been taken in by a neighbour or anyone close by.

@dwpman, do you usually have the same postman? If so please do try and speak to him and ask him where he delivered it to. Although you are certain of the timings, may be an idea just to ask around locally....not sure what else we can do. I have been to my local post office and the lady said she can't do much as the delivery journey is there and shows it has been delivered.

She said the best thing i can do is to fill out a claim form but max that can be received is £50

So hi, yes it is usually the same postman. You’re missing the point...the post comes to the island overnight and gets sorted in Douglas. My postman delivers to Laxey, which is 8 miles from the Douglas sorting office...in Laxey, nobody gets post before about 11.00am, and my part of Laxey it is usually 11.30 or later. There would have been no delivery anywhere in Laxey at 8.49 am.

You insured the iPhone for £50 but knew the value was higher, so if it comes to a claim for compensation, you can only claim £50. But I would expect a full refund from you...I hope you understand.

I have not given up hope. It may still be delivered later today...I’m hoping something has gone wrong with the RM scanning system and what we are seeing online is not the iPhone but some other item and somehow the tracking numbers have benn mixed up.

I’ll keep you up to date as and when I see my postman.

The £50.00 maximum claim means that you didn’t choose the appropriate insurance, and that may be a problem for you.

I agree that they buyer should ask his neighbours however it’s your responsibility to ensure safe transit and insurance. It’s highly unlikely to have an early morning delivery on the IoM as he indicated.

Are you sure that the receipt given to you is the correct one? Sometimes the PO makes mistakes, but failing all of the above you’ll need to refund the buyer the full amount and make your claim through the Royal Mail.

    Thanks

I feel I have done everything correct, I thought signed for would be appropriate because it would have tracking and a signature.

Will wait to see what happens but, how can it be fair that I would lose out on money even though I did everything properly.

Regarding the Insurance I understand that yes £50 is all I would get back but I’d also lose £100 :(

Ok, you haven’t done everything correctly as the PO would usually ask the value and nature of the goods and advise the appropriate insurance.

In this case Royal Mail Special Delivery is ideal which is about £8:00 and covers you value of the goods sent

Correct in that you have cover for £50.00 only. Please check the steps of the package through the tracking facility if there is one. The next step is to prepare the refund for the full amount without delay.

Should the phone arrive at some point in the future I’d fully expect the seller to return the refund or return the phone to you, fully insured at your expense.

Sorry to be blunt but don’t ever skimp on postage.

Apologies for butting in...because it's just the standard RM Signed For service, the only stage by stage tracking is posted and delivered...

Hi, very pleased to say the phone has just been delivered at 12.30 pm...so we can all breathe a sigh of relief! I caught the postman and showed him a print-out of the tracking info. He explained that is his signature and it indicates it is on his table for delivery on his round, number 70! Clearly he should not be doing that - the system is for me to sign when on I receive the item! Not happy with my postman, and the wife thinks I should follow it up this end.
So, apologies to all...patience is a virtue as they say. The phone looks in good nick as described, but I'm not sure if it has been factory reset and any icloud account deleted...perhaps thelaughingman can confirm that to me.

Hi whew gosh I am really glad it worked out and have learnt my lesson on postage. I would have paid the full amount just to be clear.

It was factory restored and I set it up just to make sure it wouldn’t ask for my iCloud details, you can either factory restore again or add your iCloud details :)

Thanks So much for updating us all
