    Hello,

My wife has received a laptop from her work place. As
she is a primary school teacher, it is from RM (Research Machines) - remember them :) !!. Anyway, the model of the laptop is ACY25 and it comes with a firewire port...or least I thought so...

Please see attached picture (which I hope you can see)

I can not find any firewire plug that fits in this poxy port...

The laptop has all the drivers loaded for the firewire port, and reports that there is no problem - so it must be there...

    so can anyone help..?

PS. I have emailed the actual people who manufactured the laptop and they sent an email showing some nice firewire plugs (very low resolution) stating that these should do it and it will work !!

    help

There are two types of Firewire- the smaller 4 pin (also on my laptop) and a larger one 6 pin (fount on soundcards and desktops)

Same thing, just different size. Just find a 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable to use with other devices (with 6 pin)

As Nathan said it does look as if the laptop has a 4 pin firewire port.
Most PC's would have a 6 pin port and a camcorder a 4 pin port. Therefore the standard cable is 6 pin > 4 pin. Just buy a 4 pin > 4 pin (should have no problem finding these) and you should be editing video in no time.

    Mark.

OK, I missed out some information...

I had already brought a 4pin-4pin firewire cable. It did not fit.

The reason is because the firewire port on the laptop needs a four pin firewire plug (just a like the four pins at the end of a fork!!) if you look at *your* firewire cables - you will see that there is NO four pins, but four metal contacts...

this is driving me MAD

    please help....
