Unheard of Panny E55 Crisis

    Hope somebody can shed some light on my problem.

    Had my E55 since April so I'm pretty familiar with it.

    Having burned many DVD-r's (mixture of Verbatim, Maxell & TDK) I've recently started having the finalised menu 'blackout'

    As many Panny owners know, when you first playback a finalised DVD-R you immediatley get a blue menu replete with the thumbnails. In my case, all I'm getting is at best is one thumbnail surrounded by a full screen of blackness.

    Any ideas?.

    This could be a problem with the disks your using. Are they 4x or 8x speed by any chance? Have you tried reverting to official 1-4x Panasonic DVD-Rs?

    I've been successfully using Maxell, TDK, Verbatim - all x4 -
    until this problem hit across all the brands

    I have not used Panasonic discs - I hate to think that I'd have to anyway.

    As we speak, it's been sent back to Panasonic via Comet.

    Whatever happens I'm gonna insist on a new replacement as opposed to the so called 'like for like' policy - meaning secondhand.

    Sadly I've been advised that the turn-around could be up to a month. So I'll have to apply pressure toward Comet as they were the principal in the sale.

    Given that customer service is stuck in the 1970's, I'll expect a battle.

    What's wrong with them? Aren't they taylor made for the machine?

    I didn't mean that anythings wrong with them at all (I do use Panasonic DVD RAM).

    My issue is that any of the brands I use should be equally compatible.
    Indeed Panasonic themselves have recommended them.

    I am sure my problem is the E55.
