Anyone got this? Is the picture any better than the first issue, as this was very poor?

Extras aside, is it worth upgrading?

    Thanks

you can buy it for a tenner in alot of places now - its very good, i cant really remember if the pic quality is reference but i dont recall it being bad. the extras alone are worth a tenner.

I've never seen the original release, but I have the R2 10th Anniversary Edition and the picture is excellent! I'm waiting for the R1 version, so if you're interested, I'll let you know what that's like when I receive it :)

    Thanks for the replies

Sigismund, why are you going for the R1 if you already have the R2 version?

Is there something extra on it? Will you be keeping your R2 version?!

I've replaced most of my Pal DVD collection with NTSC; mostly Region 1's, but a few R2 Japanese DVDs. Why? Well, because I became aware of Pal speed-up in both the picture and sound! If you're interested see here

I've got my Unforgiven R2 up for trade at the moment! I think the R1 and R2 are identical as far as extras etc. go, so my advice would be to go for the R1..................every time!! ;)

oh dear "PAL speed up" rears its head again. I've done a few tests myself, and while it dont dispute that it is there its only noticeable when playing side by side. It a bit extreme replacing your DVD collection because of that, and a bit of a waste of money dont you think?

Question: are you watching the film or the equipment its playing on?

That's a fair question :) The answer is definately the film! That's why I notice the difference!

I think what you mean to say is that you only notice it when comparing Pal to NTSC ;) I notice it all the time, now! Even the Bond signature tune sounds better when played at the right speed! So now when I here dun diddly un dun dun dun dun etc. on R2 it just sounds wrong i.e. too high and too fast!

I agree, it was a bit of a drastic decision to make, replacing all my DVDs, but every time I look at Blade DTS, Jurassic Park 1, 2 & 3 Superbits, Ronin R3 Superbit, Stargate UE R1, Ronin DTS, X-Men 2 etc. on my shelf I feel a little better...............although no less poor  :D :smoke:

    I trust that's not a Freudian slip :D

Actually it isn't costing a fortune (it is costing a bit, though!) I've gotten rid of quite a lot of "dross", so the money from those DVDs just gets ploughed back into the DVDs I really want. My shelves are less full, but what is there.................well, sometimes I just stand and look at the DVDs in their cases  :p ;)

Not including my R2 Pal DVDs I've got about 70 R1 R2 Jap and R3 DVDs. I could only guess at the cost of them, as some have been trades etc. Before I decided to trim down my collection I had over 200 DVDs, but quite a few I bought because I'd forgotten why I was buying DVDs in the first place!
