Underworld - Unrated Extended Edition

I only just bought the barebones region 3 DTS edition and now i hear there will be a new unrated edition of this excellent film in May....................................... way to go Columbia, always a studio for re-releasing and milking every last penny from consumers.

I just wish they had informed people in advance as this special unrated edition must have been known for a long time at the studio.

I got the R3 version as it was so cheap and i must admit to quite enjoying it, would be interested to see what additional scenes are added to it. But it is typical of the film studio to milk consumers for every last penny.

I watched it the other night for the first time, and I had to admit I quite enjoyed it. I would probably get the new edition, and flog the basic one, which is actually quite a reasonable disc itself. The only thing I would say about the sound is it's bloody loud!!

It seems the new version will have an extra 23 minutes added to it, thats a substanial amount and you have to wonder if it will enhance the film or destroy it.

I'm a tad confused about the extra footage .. has it been edited back into the film or is it just the normal 'deleted scenes' type of extra? I ask because one description I read implied at least it was the latter.

It wasnt a great film in the first place so anything that can make it better is welcome..

not quite, the "added footage" runs to 12 minutes extra that's genuinely new, the other 11 minutes is substitutions to shots that were already there, which means 1 of 2 things - the MPAA got them to substitute/remove gory shots which the director is reinstating for the unrated directors cut, or he just didn't like how 11 minutes of the film looked and is substituting that footage for different takes. Maybe more rearward shots of kate bending over in that leather outfit

Was a passable film at best (compared to blade anyway, nice DD5.1 though ) but the extended cut may make it better so will be looking out for it.

If so, I'm bolloxed. I have a Tosh SD220e MR and I'm pretty sure they don't play em.

What news of a UK release, Oh wise ones?

I thought the Toshibas could play rce discs. Especially the 220.

The Toshiba can play them even if they are RCE encoded, you just mess around with your remote and press memory and put 001 in and then press play or enter and it should start the film.

Alternatively just put in a non RCE R1 disc first and then it should play them fine.

Been searching the web for news of this and i'm pretty confident it will get a region 2 and 3 release by September of this year with DTS sound

Thats if the original release pattern is followed.
