Understanding Internet radio bit rate quality

When listening to internet radio I currently use an inexpensive Grace Digital 'Primo Wireless Internet Radio' connected to my amp via phono cables. My station of choice (Solar Radio) shows it's playing a 128kbps MP3 quality. Some googling suggests it's also available at 256kbps.

So what is considered good quality for internet radio streaming?

If a station has different quality streams available, does the quality stream you get depend in part on the streaming device used?

I guess I'm wondering if something like the Bluesound Node 2i would offer a much better listening experience or would the difference be marginal?
