I am using the right cable to update firmware on my AV888 to v2.70. The cable was installed on my Windows 8.1 PC correctly. I have version 2.66.

I get the error message " unable to open the specified port. Ensure that no other application or device driver is using it ".

Can anyone please help? I am unable to update the software.

Are you using a real physical serial port, or a USB to serial adaptor? The AVR350 was incredibly fussy about updates, and I'd guess the 888 will be the same - I was never able to get it to update using a USB to serial adaptor; I had to use a machine with a physical RS-232 port installed on the motherboard.

You might need to find an old PC from somewhere, or buy a PCI serial adaptor and install it in a desktop PC to do this.

Spl23 - thanks for your reply.

The problem has now been sorted luckily. Just needed a new USB to serial adaptor from Maplins. The one I had was old and used with a Vista operating system and I now have Windows 8.1.

I was struggling to update to the new firmware and now it is fine.
