Question unable to access one specific website - Sky Fibre BB

Strange issue - I am unable to access one specific ( non adult) website from my home Sky network - I tried several devices. When I turn off my phone WiFi I can then access the site via 4G. I can also access the site from my home WiFi when connecting via the works VPN.
Any ideas how to resolve ? ( Sky Broadband Shield is off)

Just tried accessing via a proxy and was able to connect so everything points to Sky blocking the site - could another Sky Broadband user verify ?
The site is www.sermoncentral.com

Maybe Sky has a downer on Christianity !!

No problem with Plusnet

I wonder if its a DNS issue. Have you tried using 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 instead of the ISPs own DNS?

can you goto a command line and do a trace route?

If i do an NSLOOKUP for the host sermoncentral.com, i get ip address 50.58.50.26

If i then trace route to that Ip address i get this far...

Code:
traceroute to 50.58.50.26 (50.58.50.26), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets
 1 192.168.10.1 (192.168.10.1) 0.910 ms 0.643 ms 0.600 ms
 2 * * *
 3 be259.pr2.hobir.isp.sky.com (89.200.131.2) 19.441 ms 17.832 ms 18.940 ms
 4 lag-102.ear1.london1.level3.net (212.113.9.141) 17.975 ms 17.207 ms 17.466 ms
 5 ae-226-3602.edge3.london15.level3.net (4.69.167.94) 17.208 ms
    ae-228-3604.edge3.london15.level3.net (4.69.167.102) 17.662 ms 17.559 ms
 6 ae-226-3602.edge3.london15.level3.net (4.69.167.94) 17.345 ms 17.534 ms
    ae-228-3604.edge3.london15.level3.net (4.69.167.102) 17.589 ms
 7 ae4.ar8.lon15.level3.net (4.68.111.254) 17.199 ms 17.262 ms 17.926 ms
 8 cos1-ar1-xe-0-0-0-0.us.twtelecom.net (35.248.1.214) 132.067 ms 131.756 ms 131.778 ms
 9 * * *
10 * * *
11 * * *
12 * * *

it stops at hop 8, which is some device in the USA

Can anyone who can get to the site see if they hit any of the same hops, and can OP try a trace and see if your trace goes the same as mine as we are both on sky?

Hi rorton - thanks for taking the time to check this - I get exact same results as you with nslookup and tracert

Not sure what the next step is , but it does seem to be a Sky problem ?

Thanks to the others for checking their connections too .... any suggestions ?

i think its a case of raise a problem with Sky - their forum does look quite active, a quick search of 'Sky Blocking Web Sites' on google shows a few threads - the people from Sky do post on there to help out, so that could be a good place to start maybe?

Do you have Active X disabled\filtered in the router such as found under URL Filtering?

Have you ever been able to access it via sky?

Or have you just moved to sky?

It could be the other way round, it could be your (or rather sky's ip range) being blocked by the web server/firewall for some reason.

I used to be able to access the site and have been with Sky Fibre for ages.

Update - Over the weekend I can suddenly connect to this site again - I wonder if sky have implemented a fix. Curiously a tracert still times out after 8 hops but as I say - I can access the site .

I am keen to know what the issue was so eagerly awaiting the next Sky call back

That doesn't mean much though it just means the devices don't respond to Ping\ICMP.

I am on Virgin and I get to the same cos1-ar1-xe-0-0-0-0.us.twtelecom.net and get timeouts.

I suspect Sky have changed something - they owe me a callback so I’ll ask

I still think it's more likely that you were blocked at the website end. i.e. their provider\host blocked a number of IP addresses including some from Sky.

If Sky were blocking you then you normally get an error page etc.

Let us know if Sky say anything other than guessing :)
