Not sure if anyone out there is interested but the my Marquee 9500lc just got turned into a 9500lc ultra, and not a single potion was required!

Removed my unit from the ceiling on saturday morning, and basically transfered its tubes and magnetics into a late 2000 ultra chassis(previous chassis was 1996) and popped it back on the ceiling late Saturday.

Have roughed out a few blocks and wow! had five gears before and just gained overdrive.

Since the tubes have only just broken in a tiny bit at around 80 hours use (400+ normally needed) it was time to actually lavish more attention on the astig rings, plus using the more powerful focus system on the ultra the results are most pleasing.

At last I have top/bottom keystone and top/bottom bow plus a few other enhancements, plus Henry's new system for the near silencing of the belly fans, ye gads its a quiet unit, certainly over 30% more than the previous unit which also had improved fans on the power supply.

I'm sure those that attended the event will agree that the existing unit was already quiet.

    Sounds Ultra Yummy James,

I hope it'll be run in by the time I get to see it. :)

How do you silence the fans? Replace them with a larger/quiter fan or is it something else?

    Gary.

    Tis yummy indeed Gary,

No, basically change the mounting system, some of the mods that can be done are very simple others more time consuming.

    Better!
How could it be any better?
That must be a sight for digitalised sore eyes.
You make it sound amost trivial, but well done anyway.

Sounds good! Is it now quieter than a fan-modded 808?

Hmm good question Henry, I have the intermediate fans in the power supply section, my former unit had the ultra quiet fans.
Although I have the improved belly fan system on the ultra, of course I shall fit the even quieter fans to the p/s of this unit,I will need to measure this with a db meter Henry.

I will report back on this when I next play with a modded 808, unless you have a db meter Henry and take measurements of your unit, from 1 metre average from all round case.

Ps many thanks for the flood of mails from those who don't seem to mind my car analogy's etc, it seems the two or three that wanted pure numbers and nothing else are rather outnumbered.

For those that do mind please remember I can get as technical as you would like me to, thus I am happy two deal with all types of 'bloodgroup' :D

A couple of mods have been tried already which yield excellent results, having now got the unit on my ceiling which I am very happy indeed with, its time for the internal mods to flow.
