Using a Toshiba 210E through a panny.
Comes up on the screen NO PAL
On the dvd player PLAYBACK RESTRICTED
Can anybody help please.

Hi Roger,

Ultimate DVD Platinum is an NTSC disk so that's why you have the NO PAL message. Make sure your TV is NTSC-capable. If it is, it's just a configuration issue that needs sorting out.

The disk is Region 0 encoded though, so I don't know why it should say PLAYBACK RESTRICTED, unless that's linked to the NTSC issue - odd  You don't have parental control or something like that enabled on your player do you???

Anyway, since you have posted about this problem I presume you have asked for a replacement disk? If so, it will no doubt do the same thing so best to get to the root of your setup problems.

On Toshiba dvd players you need to have the video setting set to AUTO otherwise you get a message that says NOT PAL when you playback ntsc titles. I think the option is in setup > picture settings.

The playback restriction warning means that your players region id not compatible with the discs region id i.e. your machine may not be multi region or you may not have set it to the correct region if you have a manual selection multi region machine.

:p

Yeah, but this is a Region 0 disk so the player being multiregion is not an issue. That's the weird thing...

OK I agree with you Squirrel God, a region 0 disc should play on the Toshiba if the NOT PAL issue is resolved through the menu.

RogerW: Is ULTIMATE DVD available as region 4 (Australasia) and did you get a region 4 version? Thats the only thing I can think of that could cause this problem....
