According to the latest wikkileaks release the UK govt "feared" a negative response from Libya if they did not release Abdelbaset al-megrahis from prison.

BBC News - Wikileaks: UK 'feared Megrahi prison death'

What sort of spineless nation are we when we are bowing down to a tinpot dictatorship like Libya! Can't imagine Libya telling France or the US what to do.
Also this guys release was based on the "Fact" that he apparently only had two weeks left to live at the time of his release. Guess what, over a year later the guy is still alive. Who were the doctors that came up with this diagnoses? Where they British? or where they shipped over from Libya?

If I was a family member of a Lockerbie victim I would be furious!

Its all about the money, Libya had invited UK companies to do significant business there, apparently on the proviso that they let the Al Magrahi go. Its not about being wimps its about economics!!!

So justice for all those people who were murdered is a smokescreen.
There are no principles or morals in this world, only money.

Sad indictment for humanity.

Welcome to the 21st century. So one sick man who would have died in weeks under NHS treatment was let out and kept alive by a regime that wanted to keep him alive. A very poor reflection on the NHS.

And the Americans complaining about it. Well would that be the very same Americans who cosy up to Saudi Arabia and its royal family in order to ensure oil supplies? The very same saudi Arabian royal family who pay Al Quiada so that they get a quiet life. The same Al Quaida that then flies aircraft into buildings in America?

Oh yes, welcome to the ultra cynical real world in the ultra cynical 21st century. Are the UK Wimps of the Western World? No not really, but they are just starting to learn that if you want trade and exports and jobs and foreign income, sometimes you have to get into bed with the devil. The rest of Europe and America has been doing it for years.

The UK can take the moral high ground if you like, but then you will have to live with higher unemployment, poorer standards of living and what have you as the rest of the world cynically ignores the politics and gets on with trading amongst themselves.

U.S., Libya cement new friendship with trade deal

The United States and Libya signed a trade agreement on Thursday underlining their switch from decades-long hostility to lucrative business ties.

U.S. companies lagged their European rivals in entering the Libyan market after international sanctions on Tripoli were lifted in 2004. Washington is now striving to catch up.

Yeah and the same Saudi royal family that flogs or maims its people for breaking Islamic law, but holds drink, sex and drugs parties themselves

In the days that followed 9/11, whilst the whole world was effectively grounded - several planes left Los Angeles, Orlando and other US cities loaded up with Saudi officials AND Osama Bin Laden's closest relatives

Saudi money/oil gets you and your terrorist relatives into the sky and back to your own country no matter the circumstances.

Frightening.

Just because a person's relative is a terrorist doesn't make them a terrorist. Osama has been disowned by his family and by Saudi rulers, being banished from Saudi Arabia in 1992 following his continued public criticism of them. His terror campaign against the West followed Saudi's rejection of Osama's offer to fight Iraqi agression with 'his' Mujahideen fighters.
