    Found this on PRO-G:

It appears that the PSP may be pretty scarce when it goes on sale in the UK. Major videogame retailer GAME has announced that they are no longer taking pre-orders for launch-day PSPs. People who pre-ordered prior to 4pm on August 5th 2005 are the only customers guaranteed to receive a console for launch. GAME expect later orders to be fulfilled at some point later in September.

Whether or not this situation is the same at all retailers isn't clear. The £179 price was thought to be rather expensive, especially as importing the console proved to be cheaper. However, with Sony clamping down on retailers selling imports, it seems that people are more than willing to pay the money for the handheld.

Such a shame. Good thing I imported mine months ago :)

For the record, GAME Ireland just stopped taking pre-orders today.

Sony are either pulling the old 'limited stock' ruse or they will be rolling in it. Money that is.

Well GAME are the UKs biggest retailer for videogames.....

Woolworths - people only go in there to steal stuff. Joke on my behalf

Gamestation, WHSmith and online shops seem to have stock though. So maybe not a complete sellout? Although I do think sales will be respectable

Wouldn't be too surprised if Sony kept the initial stocks pretty limited TBH, lets face it, Sony would hate it if there wasn't a sell out for the UK release of the PSP. After all, that must be the main reason for all the legal action against importers to the UK

I certainly won’t be paying £180 for a PSP. I’ll wait for the price to drop to £100, and I’m in no hurry…

The UK PSP will not be region locked for games, Sony have said from the begining that the PSP will be region free for games, but not films.

I keep thinking about getting one of these , but it seems a bit pricy at the moment. I think I will be waiting untill after Xmas and see how the pricing is then. :)

A price fall 5 months after launch is optimistic, esp as it will have just been Xmas/New Year

I think at least March will be the earliest, but next summer more realistically.

Remember we live in rip-off UK. Unless after the launch hype the PSP bombs, which I don't think is likely

i heard there was 60,000 units coming into the country and GAME had got 30,000 of these but have taken deposits on all of them.
they are still taking deposits for the next batch in mid to late sept.

does anyone know if you can get mame to work on these tho?

60,000? Yeah right, prob 600,000 or 1 million.

    Here's something tho:

NA launch; allocation of 1 million units. 'Only' 600,000 got sold

I do still think plenty of places will have PSPs. Retailers not associated with videogames e.g WHSmith and online retailers

Drop to a hundred pounds.....................I dont think so I think as good as it will get will be 150 down to the fact that this is not just a games console hense it has more appeal to the larger market I reakon the price will hold so if you want one just pay out the 180 and enjoy

I agree mate, its like the Mini demand is so high forget about asking for a discount at the dealers compared to another car, just like the PSP, demand is too high to even contemplate a discount before 1st quarter next year.

Gamestation have now run out of their 1st batch:

    http://www.gamestation.co.uk/cat.asp?cat=PSP&t=platforms

But they are doing a pretty good bundle offer; value pack, essentials pack plus one of wipeout, ridge racer, medievil, fired up, everybody's golf or ape academy for £200: http://www.gamestation.co.uk/

now Game had better reward my loyalty.....I could have easily pre-ordered at gamestation. They better had some good bundle offers going. I was assured by salesperson they would have some closer to launch...well less than 3 weeks to go, they still haven't
